Monday, December 29, 2014 Black Magic

Fedora & Turtleneck: Brandy Melville // Vest and Skirt: Topshop //Shoes: H&M // Tights: Urban Outfitters

If there was one thing I learned about living in London, not including how to switch tube stops effortlessly and swiftly use my umbrella in unseasonable rain, it was that an all black outfit is coveted, sleek and always in fashion. I read somewhere on Tumblr that "people who can't handle an all black outfit are weak" and I can't help but agree. It matches everything, slims like no other, and always puts you in a power position, even if you are just going grocery shopping or something else not particularly glamorous.
This week I decided to put my Christmas gifts to good use (thanks, Mum and Dad!) and channel my inner sorceress for a fun, yet slightly gothic look in front of a cathedral in my town. Paired with my new fedora and extremely silky fur vest from Topshop, I stayed cozy in a new turtleneck which is fast becoming one of my favorite pieces in my closet. Turtlenecks are not only practical, but they also are sophisticated, making any outfit look a tad more smart.
Another one of my current obsessions is fake knee-high tights.  I grabbed these over the summer in a sale from Urban (big surprise) and love that I don't have to adjust them at all like normal knee-socks, which sometimes are more of a hassle than they are worth.  It's all the appearance of a knee-sock but convenience of tights! Put this all together and you can say that I look a bit like a coven leader... something I don't really mind, if I do say so myself! Who doesn't want to relive the days of Sabrina the Teenage Witch? I guess next on my list would be a black cat that gives sassy commentary... Will report back on that one. Hope everyone had an amazing holiday. xx

P.S. Also, a shout out to my best friend Emma... Thank you for putting up with me and letting me teach you the world of fashion blogging. You're the best!

Friday, December 26, 2014 Lush

This week I guess I  was a bit naughty and decided to congratulate myself for getting straight A's (and trudging through this semester) with some little bath time treats and a scarf I had my eye on for a while which went on sale! As you probably already noticed, I am a longtime customer/ fanatic of Urban Outfitters and always love to mix and match their pieces. Perfect for styling or making a statement, Urban always seems to create unique concepts and clothing, two things which are ideal when looking toward trends. Straying away from clothes, which is almost impossible for me to do, I walked into the world of bath bombs and body butters and I have to say- I'm hooked.
As a company, Lush has it going on. They fight against animal testing, use natural ingredients, and everything in the store smells incredible. Plus, the employees who work there are super outgoing and are eager to help you find whatever it is you might be looking for; which is prime for a person like me who gets slightly overwhelmed and ends up buying the first thing they see or walking out in a daze.
These little guys are called "Bath Bombs" and they are honestly pure pieces of magic. I swear. Not only do they smell good but they moisturize your skin, soften your bath water, have no added chemicals, and turn your bath different colors!  I'd be lying if I didn't say that I've been trying to find more ways to take baths and stock up on some of the holiday goodies before they are gone. Below you can find the ones I bought and I'm sure I'll put a review of them up soon! Cheers! xx

(From left to right)

Shoot for the Stars- According to the Lush website, this bath bomb has a sweet honey-toffee scent and provides out of this world baths!  Also, I read that it releases tiny stars and turns your bath into a night sky.

Space Girl- Not only is the appearance of this one extremely cool, but apparently it fizzes around your bath like it's in orbit. Smelling of black currant (a British fav) and just pure overall yumminess, this bath with turn a dark plum like a midnight sky and give the sensation that your bath tub is actually in space.

Golden Wonder- Ok, this one is by far my favorite. Tanya Burr on one of her Christmas vlogs put this in her bath and the water turned to gold at first but then as the bath bomb dissolves, different parts of the present become unveiled and there are different color layers to it! And there is an added bonus of little gold stars that pop out of the present and swim around the bath. It's basically like opening a surprise present! Not only is the appearance gorgeous but the scent is fresh and citrus-y.

Wednesday, December 24, 2014 It's about that time

Jacket: Dorothy Perkins // Turtleneck: My mum // Jeans and Backpack: Topshop // Boots: Docs // Scarf and socks: Urban Outfitters
It's been a while since I've done a proper outfit post, mostly because I was drowning in work all of finals week, but I am happy to report I am back at home and ready give my blog some much needed TLC.
On Monday I went with my two best friends from home, Liza and Emma, to Boston for some Christmas shopping and catching up over falafel. Although  I haven't seen both of them since the summer, it was like no time had passed and it was a perfect day. We spent our time browsing Newbury Street and revisiting our favorite spots despite the chilly weather.  Apparently I was feeling the all black and leather vibe (typical) but my absolute favorite part of my outfit was the fact that my Mum's well-worn black turtleneck kept me warm the entire time. Sometimes fashion can be functional!
Hope everyone's holidays are going well and that you are relaxing and enjoying time with your loved ones. It's important to put yourselves first! Stay lovely and happy holidays.  Cheers!  xx

Wednesday, December 10, 2014 Tune // Young Rising Sons

If you're into music that is of the indie-rock persuasion, Young Rising Sons might just be up your alley. This New Jersey native band opened for The 1975 on their tour alongside CRUISR (which I got to see in Montreal in November!) and had amazing stage presence.  I even got to meet them and have them sign their album!  They were all super sweet and grateful for opening for such an influential band. Although they only have five songs, their music is perfect for some casual cruising in the car.  It's more feel good than mellow, and their sound is a bit unique. So if you're trying to spice up your iPod playlist definitely give Young Rising Sons a listen.  Cheers! xx

Wednesday, November 26, 2014 cheeky holiday cheer // burberry

As a young girl who grew up binge-watching The Parent Trap and Wallace & Gromit, my love for all things British has become borderline obsessive over the years...And yes, that even includes the Spice Girls. I know, I'm a cliché. Burberry is one of my all-time favorite designers and it might be because it is  the quintessential British staple and that the checked scarves scream "class" in a way no scarf has ever done before.  Along with being one of my favorite designers, I always turn to Burberry for inspiration whether it be in winter or in spring—the team behind the classic trench is always innovative and nothing short of spectacular.
This holiday short, called "From London With Love," features Romeo Beckham (yes, Posh Spice's baby boy!) and is so close to capturing Christmas that I can practically hear sleigh bells ringing and smell the pine from our newly cut tree. Decked out in golden dresses with ethereal snowfall, majestic dancing and little beige boxes with massive holiday ribbons, this video encompassed everything I love about Christmas and even reminded me of one of my favorite Christmassy films, Love Actually.  If you haven't seen the short yet, you can view it on Burberry.

Tuesday, November 25, 2014 tim's look // a little bit of London

Veering off from my standard outfits posts, this week I tackled the world of menswear in my style column for my college newspaper.  Professor's were pushing me to steer away from my typical approach and try something I was more uncomfortable with.  Little did they know, menswear and the trends it follows is one of my specialties! Especially with my friend Tim around.
Some say he's the best dressed guy on campus, and I can't help but agree. He takes professionalism to a new level and always dresses the part, whether it's in turtlenecks and tweed or with a gold little bow-tie.  I'm also quite fond of this column in particular because I got to reminisce about my time abroad in London; there is nothing better than British men... nothing (well, maybe except for Cadbury Oreo bars.) Check the article out here if you're so inclined: menswear

Wednesday, November 19, 2014 style crush // clueless cher

If you were wondering who I turn to when I am feeling fashionably-inept, it's Cher.  From plaid skirts to sheer shirts and knee highs, I am a true 90s girl when getting dressed in the morning. My favorite thing about this movie, aside from the life-changing quotes (As if!), is the style of clothing itself, including one of my favorites: the crop-top.
Flattering yet cutting-edge, I've always found a shorter top and high-waisted jeans give the illusion that my legs go on for miles (they don't) and always leave me feeling like a boss (always true.) Still to this day I dream of owning Brittany Murphy's cropped hunter green sweater and matching plaid mini skirt, and I hopefully one day I can find it! But until then I will live vicariously through my favorite 90s chick flick. Lately, I've been finding myself wanting one of those computers that could match my clothes and create an awesome outfit like Cher in Clueless, but alas, I guess I am roughing it until finals week. Potential Christmas gift? Probably not. Stay lovely everyone and have a great holiday! xx

Saturday, November 15, 2014 brogues and bleachers

(Sweater and Scarf: Urban| Shirt: Gap| Brogues: Office UK|Dress: H&M)

Last week there was a reunion dinner for former orientation leaders at my college and I was handed a certificate with a superlative saying: "Most European Style." Needless to say, it brought a huge grin to my face and made me quite depressed that I am no longer living in London, but I like to think that it still shows in the way I dress. I felt like being a bit fancy this week so I paired a collared dress shirt from Gap with a new fluffy scarf from Urban (I've been browsing there way too much lately!) and put on my favorite brogues from London. It feels like just yesterday I was on Carnaby Street picking out those brogues. Ah, this post is making me so nostaglic. But anyways hope your weekends are off to a good start and stay lovely everyone! xx

Friday, November 14, 2014 girl crush // Taylor Swift

Although it may not be Woman Crush Wednesday, I'm taking some time out of my Friday night to talk about how obsessed I am with Taylor Swift right now.  From her 80s themed album to her kick ass new video about her twisted media persona, I have found myself just trying to bring up reasons to mention her in conversation. You might even say I'm a Swift-enthusiast. One of my favorite parts of her new video "Blank Space" aside from all the elegant outfit changes was the part where she loses her shit and starts causing mayhem.  Perfection.  Also, the videography and video concept were A+. Go check it out here if you haven't see it yet! Slay Tay, slaaaaaaay.

Thursday, November 6, 2014 Ponchos

(Poncho: Free People| Top and Scarf: UO| Jeans: Topshop| Brogues: Office)

With November in full swing and Thanksgiving right around the corner, I'm not gunna lie about my post-autumn depression.  One of my favorite things about this season is curling up with a good book and a cup of chai while I watch the leaves change outside my window.  But to be honest, the trees are looking pretty bleak right now and with senioritis kicking in, its a lose-lose.  On the brighter side of things, I found this soft, blanket-like poncho at Free People for only $58!!! Practically a steal! It's been one of my favorite pieces to pair with loose dresses and tights, or over jeans and a long sleeve to stay warm and still look a bit fashion forward. If you haven't hopped on the poncho train, read my article here where I describe how wonderful they are.

Monday, October 13, 2014 The Golden Hour

(Cardigan, Shirt, Scarf, and Beanie: Urban Outfitters|Jeans and Backpack: Topshop|Boots: Modcloth| Rings: AE & Chloe and Isabelle)
Feeling Fall-ish? So have I! My days have been filled to the brim with spiced chai lattes in glass mason jars and cosying up in fluffy cloud-like scarves from dawn until dusk.  Although senior year is a train going full speed ahead, I've had some time to wander deep into the woods and breathe in some fresh pine-filled air. Earth tones and a deep maroon have been my fall favorites lately, so from my OPI nail polish to my well-worn Leigh jeans, I have been taking cues from nature to match my mood. Also how cute are these rose-gold rings? It's the perfect in between ring color if you aren't feeling a stark silver or a bold gold. Stay tuned for more outfits and stay lovely. xx

Flannels in the Forest

(Flannel and Scarf: Urban Outfitters | Boots: Aldo)
With the cold crisp mornings and the lack of heat in my townhouse, I've been opting for my warmest pieces, including this new flannel from Urban which my Mumma bought me when she was visiting.  It's cropped at the waist in the front and longer in the back which makes it a perfect pair with leggings, warm socks and boots. Ultimately, this is my go-to asemble. Who doesn't want to stay cosy?

Saturday, September 27, 2014 Chai in the City

(Cardigan and Jeans: Urban Outfitters| Top and Shoes: Topshop| Sunnies: Vintage Clubmasters)
There's something about autumn that makes me restless and if I spend too much time in class or in my room I drive myself mad. With the weather being so nice this week I took it upon myself to treat myself to a mid-week detox which included strolling around Urban and getting some chai tea downtown. All in all it was time well spent.  For all of you hitting that one month college work slump, I hear ya.
